These two paintings were done following a quick sketching trip to St Ives on a cold and damp morning with my two year old daughter. After an hour she started complaining of cold and hunger so we had to pack up and head for town but I got enough time for 4 drawings at Porthminster. As you can see the paintings have a fair bit more warmth in them than St Ives that day..
You get these views as you come into St Ives on the train.

After a whole year spent painting aerial views in 2012, I have come back to earth for a few new Cornish paintings for my show at Cornwall Contemporary in late April.

Sketchbook show

A sketchbook show has just started at Cornwall Contemporary gallery in Penzance and these two paintings on paper are included. They sit between a sketch and a finished painting; preparotary paint sketches/studies where I crystalise colour and compositions for the final work. They are both allotment aerial view studies and are on thick watercolour paper.

 Firstly happy new year and thanks to everyone who came to the exhibitions in 2012 and/or bought paintings. It was a great year with lots of new themes developed,  and actually every single painting made last year was an aerial view so it was a different approach to past years.
I am showing at a couple of venues in January, firstly in the 'All at Sea ' exhibition at the National Maritime museum, Falmouth (in conjunction with Beside the wave gallery). This has been on since September and runs till feb. 6th.
I am also showing at the London Art fair with Lemon Street gallery of Truro. This runs from 16-20 January, at the Business Design centre, 52 Upper st. ,London.
